A Greater Gift brings you handcrafted gifts and foods, such as home decor, jewelry, textiles, musical instruments, tea, chocolate and much more from small-scale producers in 34 countries. All of our items are made under internationally recognized fair trade standards, which include long-term trading relationships, a living wage, democratic decision-making, gender equality, concern for the environment and no child exploitation.

Buying Local

As a fair trade organization, A Greater Gift is committed to supporting local and small-scale businesses. It partners with family-owned and cooperatively run artisan and farmer groups worldwide to help support their local communities and bring you handcrafted, not mass-produced, gifts and foods. We promote a type of trade that ensures democratic participation in the marketplace and the alleviation of poverty in communities worldwide.

History

We began in the 1940s helping WWII refugees sell handcrafts in North America as a way to rebuild their lives. Over the past 55 years, we have grown to work with people in economically developing regions in 34 countries, including the U.S. We are based in Madison and our gift ship on Monroe Street opened in 2005.
