Burnie's Rock Shop believes in the value of buying local. As a
family-owned business in Madison for over forty years, we owe our
existence to the support of our loyal, local clientele. In turn, our
employees help support the restaurants, coffee shops, garages, and
groceries in the community. This keeps much of the money at home,
supporting a diverse and vibrant local economy. In addition, our sense
of civic responsibility drives us to support many school, neighborhood
and community service organizations through donations. History
Established in 1962 by Burnie Franke, the first shop was located on
Monroe Street. In the late 1970's, the shop moved to the present
location on the east side at 901 E. Johnson Street. A beloved Madison
fixture, Burnie's Rock Shop has been owned for several years by
Burnie's son, Nevin. Burnie is retired, but still comes in several
afternoons a week to help out on the sales floor, cut and polish
stones, and work on special orders.
