Product/Service

The first Neighbor-to-Neighbor Timebank in Dane County was hosted by the Northside Planning Council in 2005.   Dane County now has one of the fastest growing, most diverse Timebanks in the country.  By its second anniversary more than 400 members county-wide had exchanged thousands of hours, started a Youth Court and a prisoner reintegration program.  In 2007 even more individuals and organizations are joining the Timebank and finding creative and innovative ways to benefit from it. People help each other and receive credits for their service.

Buying Local

The Dane County Timebank might just be the ultimate expression of buying locally.  Its purpose is to promote a sense of community by sharing talents, skills and caring with each other. Like hundreds of Timebanks around the world, it relies on the strengths and interests of its local members.  The idea is simple: we all have something to offer and we all have needs. But often what we need the most is something that we either cannot afford or do not want to ask for.  So in instead of paying with money, we pay each other with time.  One hour equals one time dollar, no matter who gives and receives it.

History

Timebank members exchange everything from highly skilled carpentry and craftsmanship to professional, legal and personal care services; pet grooming to computer repair; driving each other to the airport or health care appointments; and. tutoring of almost any kind.  Some people shop for each other or cook meals.  Others may paint someone's house or volunteer at a community event. No money needs to change hands.  A millionaire's hour is valued as much as that of a person who has no money at all.  Are you willing to help me?  Can I provide something to you?  The Timebank can help us find each other.
