Product/Service

We design and install Earth & Water Works rain gardens, shoreline buffers, prairie restorations and green roofs, which function as natural infiltration and evapotranspiration (plant "respiration") using native plants.  Our installations reduce stormwater pollution going into lakes and streams while adding habitat for birds and butterflies and adding beauty, value and savings to our customers' property.

Buying Local

Earth & Water Works' mission is conserving earth and water resources.  Using locally grown native plants, seed and other organic materials to design and install rain gardens, shoreline buffers, prairie restorations and green roofs, we encourage our residential, municipal and business customers to "create a destination at your location."

History

Earth & Water Works, LLC was founded by Ellen Rulseh and Susan Priebe in 2002, when they pioneered the design and installation of three residential rain gardens on Madison's east side.  In spring and summer of 2003 they won a "best management practices demonstration project" contract with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District in which they designed and installed six rain gardens in Milwaukee.  Since then, the rain gardens, shoreline buffers, prairie restorations and green roofs they have designed and installed in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Jefferson, Dodge, Rock and Dane Counties have mitigated more than 1.5 million gallons of stormwater.
