Arbor house is national award-winning sustainable environmental lodging choice. This is manifested in a complete and comprehensive approach we take to everything we do here at the inn, from the fabric we use in our sheets, to the paint we use when undergoing construction, the free Madison Metro bus passes we provide to our guests, and the local coffee vendors with whom we are partners.  While we are not an inexpensive inn, if you are interested in comfort and green value for your money, we are an excellent choice. We have both family and single/couple suites, and have a variety of fun and environmentally friendly activities that guests can choose.

Buying Local

We believe that encouraging businesses to shift their purchasing to more local and environmentally responsible choices helps stimulate the local economy and strengthen our community. The synergetic energy that is created between small business owners recommending, referring, and using other small businesses is priceless. We are privileged to live in a community where it is so easy to make local choices. Other cities simply do not have the strength in number of independent businesses, and we are very excited for the continued expansion of independent businesses here in Madison.

History

John and Cathie Imes moved to Madison from Milwaukee 13 years ago to start The Arbor House, their first and only inn. The need for the inn to be environmentally friendly and sustainable was not a question, it had been a passion and interest of the couple for years. John runs the statewide nonprofit agency WI Environmental Initiative. Since its beginning, the inn has gained a national and international following, receiving many awards. It is open and busy year-round, and is truly a unique gem hidden right here in Madison.
